Paris Photo. Miguel Ángel Tornero: Rockstar

Rockstar was commissioned by the Museo Nacional de Altamira after several field visits and reflections on the legacy of the Altamira Caves. When entering those caves, Tornero felt like approaching the origin, like “a probe inside another world, a catheter in another body, a landscape so earthly that, paradoxically, seems extraterrestrial”

The resulting photo collages function like an ecosystem where layers and information are constantly reimagined and reshaken, creating new forms and relations through its volumes and its long-lived tattooed skin, holding mysteries and codes yet to be deciphered.

A systematic decontextualization of the subject, in a personal yet critical ecology of the image that leads us to observe the relationship between things and ourselves. Presented now with the artworks framed or naked to the wall, he emphasizes that feeling of getting into an unknown organism responding to his insatiable research and the notion that the act of seeing comes before the act of wording.
