The Juan Silió Gallery presents the first solo exhibition in Madrid by artist Manuel M. Romero (Sevilla, 1993). This exhibition features recent works, including monochrome canvases and papers filled with nuances, lines, and colors that reference the painting process, the labor, and the time spent in the studio, where materials adhere and transfer from one surface to another. It is an exercise that requires careful viewing of each piece to uncover its richness, inviting pause and reflection.
The exhibition features a text by the curator and critic Joaquín Jesús Sánchez and has been organized in collaboration with the Artnueve Gallery in Murcia.
Manuel M. Romero (Seville, 1993) works “with a reduction to the essential, with simplicity and visual silence as an alternative to the dizzying use of current images. I try to escape the speed that characterizes our environment and generate spaces of pause and reflection. Pause as an alternative. Pause speaking about painting. Painting speaking about painting. My work is based on the constant revision of formal aspects of painting, through an abstract, empty, serene, monochrome image, with subtle contributions, constantly alluding to its own process.”
He has recently exhibited solo shows at the Centro Párraga in Murcia, the Filiale Gallery in Frankfurt, and the Art Nueve Gallery in Murcia. His work is present in the Cisneros Fontanal Foundation, the Andalusian Center for Contemporary Art, and in collections such as the Kells Collection, the Yera Collection, and the DKV Collection, among others.
