Nestor del Barrio works his pictorial and sculptural works within an aesthetic framework that reflects on industrial processes, the digital world and virtuality, using internet iconography and placing it in dialogue with more traditional artistic narratives of the landscape. In doing so, he poses questions to the viewer and to himself regarding the idea of reality, speed in the contemporary world and the post-internet aesthetic itself. His work reflects his concern about what digital technology and the internet will mean in the future, how it intervenes in the reception of reality itself or the current conception we have of the image. It is through the pictorial act itself that all these reflections are addressed, from technical solutions such as the frame or the support. His works sometimes come close to the concept of expanded painting, being organised in site-specific installations that adapt to the exhibition spaces that house them. With these compositions, the artist casts a curious and critical eye on the virtualisation of a too near future and the place that painting can or should occupy in this scenario.
